The New iPad the Third

As I write this Apple have released the latest update for the iPad. But don’t call it the iPad 3 or iPad HD, it’s just the New iPad. If you don’t already own an iPad, the latest one is pretty funky. Boasting what really is a spectacular new screen with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 at 264 pixels per inch, it is sharper than your top of the range High-def TV and movies look amazing on it. It also has a faster processor and an upgrade of the terrible, useless rear camera to a usable 5 megapixel. If you do already have an iPad, compelling enough reasons to upgrade may not be there. It still doesn’t have any support for removable storage like SD card slots, the front camera is still as terrible as ever, and the 4G feature will not work in Australia until at least 2015 as the spectrum it works in hasn’t been auctioned off to ISPs in Australia yet (Telstra’s new 4G network operates on a part of the spectrum the new iPad doesn’t support). To top that off its slightly heavier, and slightly thicker than the iPad 2. So unless you have a penchant for hi-def movie watching, or game playing on the iPad, maybe wait and see what next year brings.
