Why We Don't Sell Second Hand / Refurb PCs

You can get some good deals on second hand, refurbished, ex-goverment lease computers.  But, except in exceptional circumstances, we won't sell them.  Why?  Because they break down a lot more frequently than a new computer, and, despite emphasising the second hand nature of the computer and the fact it comes with a limited 60 day warranty, people still get upset and disapointed when it breaks.  And we don't like upset and disapointed customers, no matter how clear or up front we've been.

Ex-lease computers are pretty much always 4+ years old.  Google did a study on the life span of SATA drives in their data centres and concluded that the average lifespan of a hard drive was about three years.  so you are already on borrowed time before you even start using a refurb PC, not to mention the age of the RAM and motherboard, which are the other components most likely to fail.

So my advice is always to buy new, with an extended three year onsite warranty.
